Glad you saw the humor. Came back to edit out the original note... I bet if you asked around enough, you could find someone with some mem sticks to put in the pc. We have a monthly computer flee market in Dallas. You can get 486 machines for ten dollars that actuall run.

No offense, but you need to use a Word editor before you post. It might prompt you to insert some punctuation in few places http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Get some memory and u can do all sorts of cool stuff - I used QBASIC as a tone generator for, lets say, phreaking...... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Rig a 486 for silent running (disconnectable harddrive etc., no cpu fan) and late at night, u can use it for reading inappropriate textfiles, with an old 9.6k modem u can telnet onto the cool BBS's, dialup all the good BBS's, play all the mad old games, man, ure onto something good. The only things that match it in coolness are the C64 or all the Apple II series.

You can use it as a firewall and you can also crack RC5 blocks with it.

Well, I really can't do anything with it now, I cant get anything installed on it. Cause its a blank HD. Anybody Have anyideas on what could be wrong with it? it wont read from the floppy. Do i need to have the drivers on a floppy too?

I've got an old 486, which I'm running Windows NT on and its running as a mail server, chugs along quite nicely and hasn't been rebooted for over six months!

Use it for:

Firewall
Mail Server
Cracking
Hacking
Phreaking
Testing
Old Gaming
RC5
DHCP/DNS Server

My advise would be to (if it still works) get some memory for it (i've got 24megs in mine) and then do something with it, its still quite a powerful machine.

If the HDD won't boot and the floppy is screwed stick the HDD in another machine and stick DOS and any drivers you need on it, that should get you started!!!

The floppy may be plugged in backwards, try reversing the plug on the back of the floppy drive.

Those 486s make dandy wet stones, if you bother to pull out all the pins.
