Can you be a little more specific as far as what you are trying to do, and what exactly is happening?? shadow 03-30-2001, 07:32 AM Download the Data Lifeguard tools for WD, it will format that HDD for you. http://www.westerndigital.com/service/ftp/drives.html I had screwed up a WD drive, or so I thought with a messed up Win2k install, etc....etc.., nothing would read it, partition magic would only report that that drive as a partition error and wouldn't do anything for me. I booted with the WD software, chose to format the drive and it was back http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Good luck jadison 03-30-2001, 08:56 AM http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif Shadow http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif That's the same thing I did to my WD Caviar 6.4GB drive, installed W2K, messed up the system, tried what I could to fix it, but I ended up reformatting it. I had 500 Mp3's (downloaded patiently w/a 56K modem), dozens of pics, journals, games, my website data, etc. RIP--WD -=jd=- spuck 03-30-2001, 09:16 AM trying to use as slave to setup win95 on it. wont recognize as slave.starts to format but never does.it runs but dont make any sounds. ragtop 03-30-2001, 09:36 AM The obvious things to check are: did you set the jumpers correctly to operate as slave? Did you plug it in to the correct connector? (gray connector for a slave drive on an ATA 66 cable) Can the computer BIOS handle the hard drive size? Take Shadow's suggestion and download the data lifeguard tools. The tools include formatting, partitioning, cloning, and diagnostic utilities that are specifically designed for WD drives. Generally, you just boot the data lifeguard tools, and it will take you step by step through the installation. That should get you up and running, or at least help you figure out whats wrong. Remember, it can take a long time to format a large hard drive - be sure to let it finish. By the way, why do you want to set the drive as slave, and then install an operating system on it?? You normally want your operating system on primary - master. spuck 04-03-2001, 03:42 PM going to be master.just want to get 95 file on it to load os.set jumper ok.says hd failed.it sounded like it was searching.then said missing os.has dos on it.(did?)
