Hi,
I would like to know how to create my own ISP as I am thinking about making my own one. Any sites about Making ISPs, cable connection for ISP or making an ISP related will help.
Thanks,
Alex.

That was a fun thing to do before the Cable and DSL were out
now it's just like throwing rocks into a freshwater lake hoping them to float back to top :p
i was in that business before dude, althought IT WAS EASY now it ain't
people are using DSL / Cable the first chance the have, including myself
so setting up a ISP is definitely not worth it
UNLESS you OWN the CABLE or PHONE company

Is this really dreaming????
Can't I have my ISP to become local like covering 50 home.
So I'm not a real ISP who goes interstate but one who goes around his area.
I have just read about someone who made their ISP and only allowed surrounding 25 houses to be able to connect. I would like to do something like this.
Maybe it does have to be a gigabyte connection like he had but maybe a t1 or t3 connection so that if I split the connection with my customers that it can be like having DSL or ASDL.
I would like to know how is it possible to connect about 10 - 20 users by network sharing. Is it also possible to have like a Hub or a Ethernet switch to control how much bandwidth the users are allowed to have.
Also if I wanted more people I could put them on 56 k but have them not have a modem and still have a ethernet adapter and they will have that 'always on' condition.
Thanks,
I hope that I am not dreaming . . . :p

I doubt that you will want to spend $50,000 wiring up the neighborhood so everyone can get cable modem/ethernet speeds for free. It is a matter of efficiency and profitability that keeps the little mom and pop companyies from getting into this business.

Why do you say $50,000 ?
And why do you say free?????
It wouldn't cost that much, maybe a couple of hundred at first for about 4 homes but then later on it will increase.
Maybe I should just get dsl and let the users have a 56k connection with 5 kbs download speed.
So at first I will go to some homes about 4 then expand if more users want it. Then I can upgrade my connection to SDSL or T1 and then allow them to choose between DSL or 56k.
It is a small ISP.

Still have to connect them to your bandwidth source somehow, and you will need a server, be a CCNA, find way to limit bandwidth...
Besides, T1 is 1.5 Mb upsteam/downstream, some dsl/cable service offers 1.5 Mb or higher downstream. Probably need a T3 or OC line to start ISP.

Does anyone know of any program which can set a limit for the bandwidth?

Don't let negative comments bring you down. Dial up is not going away anytime soon. There will be a need for dial up for some time to come. Cable and satellite TV has been available forever, but look how many people go down and buy rabbit ears for thier TV's.
There are so many things you can offer once you get an ISP established, like web hosting (there will always be a future for this), Wireless Internet access, server co-location, etc... so if you are making money on these things why not offer dial up for those people that want it and are willing to PAY for it. The market is driven by demand, and people still use dial up.
Whenever someone says they tried and failed at running an ISP, doesn't mean you can't run one correctly and make money.
There is a great ISP guide available at:

Hope everything goes well.

If i have a dsl connection for example and i have 5 users, i will need to limit the bandwidth of each user to about 6 kb/s or else what could happen is one user will be getting 10 kb/s while the others get like 3-4 kb/s. This is why I need the bandwidth or kp/s limiter.
Anyway where is this in windows 98? or xp?
Thanks,
Alex.
