I am looking for Ram for a new system i am building. 256Mb PC133 from Crucial and Muskin run about $100. is Kingston the same as crucial? Anyone have any thoughts on a different brand that is better than the 3 mentioned? i am leaning toward the Crucial, so if anyone has any thoughts let me know.

Crucial is actually Micron memory. Micron is well-known as a manufacturer of quality memory chips. Personally, I generally use Crucial for all of my system builds. To date, I have never had to return a single stick of Crucial for being defective or failing.

Kingston is an assembler of sticks. I purchased a stick of Kingston and it came with Micron chips. http://www.kingston.com/memory/quality/quality.asp#dram
Kingston is also a well respected memory module manufacturer, but many people are partial to either crucial or mushkin.
If you can live without a lifetime warranty and don't mind not being able to use the fastest memory timings, generic memory will work just fine. I'm using generic memory right now. The chips themselves are made by micron, but the manufacturer of the module is unknown. The seller offered a 1 year warranty, which is long enough for me.

I agree. I just stuck 256Mb of generic (funniest thing, had a blinking LED on it) and no problems. $45. I've read all those posts about quality memory, but haven't been burned by generic yet.

I use 2 128Mb RAM memory modules (generic), and I haven't got a single problem with it, it can overclock quite well too, and is stable as well.
