Alienware gaming PC with 1.2 MHz AMD with D-LED has been crashing off and on since July, although it is now happening more frequently.

The monitor goes black and the system no longer responds.

If you power the system off and then on again, D-LED on the motherboard shows either 4 red LEDs (System Power On) or sometimes 1 green LED at R3 (memory detection test).

If you wait 1 or 2 full days, the system will boot up right away and will run for a few days before crashing again.

Does anyone have any experience in troubleshooting these D-LED lights?

Power Supply is 300W and the system has 5 internal fans (3 in the tower, one on video card, one in power supply) and doesn't appear to be overheated. It certainly is cold when we try to reboot after about 4 or 5 hours and we still can't boot up.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm trying to avoid packing it up and shipping to the manufacturer. System ran great for 18 months before this began.

Thanks!

Welcome To Sysopt!:t

You might want to call Alienware Tech support if it's still under warranty.

Yes as tony_j15 said. If it is under warrenty best is to call them, if you open the case thats it, warrenty over! Now if they give you permision to opne the case that is different but either way will require a tech support call Im afraid!:( I know "NOOOOOO, not one of those" right. I feel your pain, well sorry I dont I build my own but I can understand it is frustraiting.

If they dont cover the warrenty anymore then we'll be glad to help ya. First thing I notice is here....
"Power Supply is 300W and the system has 5 internal fans (3 in the tower, one on video card, one in power supply) and doesn't appear to be overheated. It certainly is cold when we try to reboot after about 4 or 5 hours and we still can't boot up."
Combined with this "1.2 MHz AMD ". Now it could be a weakend PSU. 300watts and Xp's do suck power. What kind of vid card? this will use more power depending too. Add to that 3 extra case fans (the vid fan/cpu fan dont really use that much.) Im assuming are 80mm's is gonna draw a little. How many HDD's and cdroms does it have too? Also, what mobo is it? Is it a diagnostics bracket on the back where you plug in mon etc.? If so sounds like MSI. Or is it on the mobo like Asus and some others do?
So the psu does have a little load there, but a good 300watt psu will handle it. Thing is it may have been a defective unit, it happens. Im sure Alienware tries to use high-end psu's but the all have lemons. That would explain all the time itwas fine. Then again it could be somthing totally dif. Forced reboots can be hard to find at times. It could be software, or hardware...:t
