I've setup a Quake 3 demo on two PC's and I am ready to go a blastin'. The laptop brightness seems fine but on the PC it is really dark!
Do I have to manually adjust my PC's brightness each time I want to use it? Or can it somehow do it automatically?
Thanks,
Jon

Check under the video options to see if you can adjust the brightness.

from the console in quake3 (can be brought down by hitting the tilde ~ key) type in the following.
r_gamma 1
press ENTER
r_gamma 1.7
press ENTER
if that works for you, create a file in the x:\quake3\baseq3 directory called autoexec.cfg and put the following lines in it
set r_gamma 1
set r_gamma 1.7

That didn't actually have any impact on my screen. It is a TFT screen if that makes any difference.

not into gaming but it's probably your display that may not be responding to the changes apocalypse gave you
- what laptop? what graphics card are you using does it have?
- what display and res are you using now?
- I'm assuming you used Quake's video options - is it using any of them now and do all or some of the changes there work at all?
- it might be something as simple as lowering the resolution a bit
