If you boot-up and have a problem, you can try moving them into other open slots but they should work. Good luck! :t tricktx 11-15-2002, 04:27 AM from experience it doesnt matter which pci slot the cards go into for performance. generally its best to put the cards in slot 1 then next in slot 2 then 3,4 etc. ukulele 11-15-2002, 10:22 AM It shouldn't matter but some motherboards require some thinking ahead. I try to put them in the available slot where it will fit best. Some like sound cards have wires that need routing, others block pinouts or are only suitable for short cards. Look at all your cards and think it out first. $1500-P4 gamer 11-15-2002, 06:03 PM Uhh, PCI slot 1 is shared with the agp video card. Ive found some systems (like mine) dont like the sound card or modem in this slot at all. And others claim it causes some vid cards problems. I always just leave slot 1 empty and use any of the others. My sblive wont play any sound when in slot 1 on this mobo but any other slot it works fine. Performance wise, not a dif. If it works, it works. If not move it.;) davidamarkley 11-15-2002, 06:16 PM I normally just pop 'em in there where they fit the best... Never have heard of any performance issues of which slot is "faster, better, or more reliable" the only diff might be between 32 and 64 bit PCI slots. But, most people don't have to worry 'bout that because normally only servers have the 64-bit version. mobiker 11-16-2002, 08:07 PM I usually try to put them as for from the agp as possible to get max air flow on my vidio card a sound card is big enough to block a lot of air but the nic is smaller so it blocks less :D leprechaun_40 11-17-2002, 02:53 PM All the PCI slots will perform the same, they are just seperate connections on the same bus, so there's no difference in performance. If slot one is shared with the AGP slot, leave it empty then (I've never heard of this, but it wouldn't suprise me either). The main thing to look for is airflow and any connections (such as CD sound cables) that need to be accessable. Try to be sure that the airflow will cool the cards, leave an open slot between them if possible.:x SysOpt.com
