I have been here chopping away for the last 5 hours trying on my own to figure out why in the hell I can't view my own website... here's all the details that I think you need.
I'm using dreamweaver
- i created a "site" within dreamweaver, so when i view the pages within DW, it seems fine.
- my main page is a frame page with 3 frames
- I cannot just view the main page in browser (choosing that option from within DW) for some reason
- I tried to upload the entire directory (thinking that would keep all of the links accurate and all) onto my webserver (which i know works, cause i removed my old site so that it was totally empty when I tried this)
- for whatever reason, i am (even then) unable to view the main page, and then when i view the other pages, none of the images are available...
-aaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!
I'm really at my wits end, and I know that I'm just doing something simple wrong transfering the entire site (links and all)... can someone PLEASE help me...
i'm dying here folks!
thanks

Maybe you could give us the url and the exact name of the page ?, we could try it out.
Have you tride renaming your main page to something like index.html (htm) ?, or maybe default.html (htm) ?.

http://holly.colostate.edu/~zexdance/parkFramset.htm
is the page that should be named index.htm and where you see the "three frames place holders" should be linked to the "frames" you made.
Hope that makes it clear as mud.

thx mnt, even if i name that page index, for some reason, the other three frames don't load into the proper place holders for some reason. if you look at the source for "parkFramset", it seems to me that it should be loading the three other htm pages into their respective frames, but for some reason it is not....
also, if i choose to look at any individual page and see if the pictures come up on it (meaning... i load one of the frame pages by itself), none of the pictures are there...
any more advise??

How I have done it in the past is to create a folder called FRAMES and put in the root directory along with all your other folders such as html, flash, images ect.
Then in the "index".html page the links to the "frames" would be listed in the properties as /frames/parkheaderframe or /frames/parkmainframe or what ever...I think your linking is just not correct

I just looked at the properties for the parkheaderframe and the images are not properly linked....
you have the first image listed as http://holly.colostate.edu/images/parkRamLogo.jpg
When it should be listed as http://holly.colostate.edu/~zexdance/images/parkRamLogo.jpg You MISSED putting YOUR OWN directory in place /~zexdance

thx for the help mnt,
i understand what you're saying i think, but what is screwing me up is that it seems like every time that i do this, i have to do it differently...
i'll look at it again, and see what i can do...
i agree though, something is severly wrong with my linking... i think that is a result of my incompetence in understanding how the linking system works in dreamweaver...
sheesh...
thanks.. we'll see what i can do

well.. sort of, i changed all of the links to include the "/~zexdance" part of it, but for some reason, it only works for some of the pages...
what in the heck is that all about...
maybe the server needs time or something.. i don't know, but I wouldn't think so
-Z
and something else about this that doesn't make sense to me is that I'm actually skipping a folder that should be included in the link...
i would think it should be /~zexdance/public_html/images/whatever.htm , but for some reason the "public_htm" part doesn't seem necessary??
and i'm also betting there there is something that i have to do witht he permissions so that this'll work, but csu's documentation on that seems pretty crappy

http://holly.colostate.edu/~zexdance/parkFramset.htm
See it's working but if you want the page to come up when someone just types http://holly.colostate.edu/~zexdance you will need to name the "parkFrameset.htm" to Index.htm Nothing else will need to be re-named

hahaha.. that cracks me up...
i don't know what the deal is, but i just went to the link you posted, and it worked, but if i type it into my own browser separately.. it's all jacked... what the heck...
this leads me to ask something that I mentioned earlier.. can it just take a while for the server to update everthing that i just uploaded?? seems like it shouldn't, but i don't know enough about that stuff to make it work
jeez.. thx for the help mnt

ya, i know how that works, but i didn't have it like that so i could move around more easily (less typing.. lazy, i know)
but i was wondering if you had any insite into my above questions...
the server updating issue??
and
how it seems that i'm still skipping the public_html directory??

Seems like the pages work. You just have to have the frameset.html or whatever named inde.htm (or index.html or default.html or default.htm--whichever your web host uses.). Probably index.htm
Then you won't have to 'choose a file' to view the site.

holly.colostate.edu/~zexdance (http://holly.colostate.edu/~zexdance)
that is the website's address
I shouldn't have to change the main frame to "index" unless i want it to automatically load that page when I go to the above link...
once i get the directory listing (which you should get too since i don't have an index named), none of the **** pages load the pictures or the text that they're supposed to....
i did "view source" and even then, it seems that the links are correct.
jeez, i'm stuck, what do you think??
thanks
