I'm adding 128 mb of ram to my computer which i recently ordered from gateway. my question is this, i don't know what brand of ram gateway gave me... i just know that it's 128 mb of 100mHz SDRAM.
a) does it matter what kind of SDRAM i add to the computer?
b) is it possible to get 100mHz SDRAM and run it at 66mHz (this is for my friends computer)?
thanks

A) It doesn't matter what brand, as long sa it's PC100. I remember hearing something about different metals in the contacts on the DIMM, but I can't be sure if that'll really affect things.
B) It'll run at 66mhz no problem.

Here's another question about RAM for someone who is knowledgable....
Can I mix different types of RAM... meaning 32M of SDRAM and 32M of ECC SDRAM???
I pretty sure you can't do it, but if anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Z

Your RAM is most likely not ECC unless you paid alot for it, or specifically asked for it. As for mixing ECC and regular, I doubt it'll work.

My gateway came with 64mb pc100 that Sisoft
Sandra detected as Hyundai. I added 64mb pc100 Simple Technology ecc with no problems
I know of except Sisoft doesn't mention anything about ecc on the second stick. As
for the pins, they come in tin or gold and
should match whatever your mobo has or it will cause corrosion.
