I have a Athlon 900Mhz running on a Asus A7V motherboard
the cpu temperature runs about 60 C/140 F
that seems really high to me but I've been told that Athlons run quite hot.
some one out there can tell me if that is a normal temperature or way too hot.
thanks

I'm running the Athlon 800MHz OC'd to 860MHz through software on the MSI-6195 K7-PRO MoBo and the normal working temp. is 42C. Rarely does it go above this, and quite often will dip to 38C. (Front fan (blowing out), rear fan w/ hood over CPR (blowing in), CPU fan (blowing down), fan on graphics card, and of course, power supply fan.)
60C sounds awful high!

Too hot if your temps are being reported correctly. Most folks argee that 50c is the top end you want for temps. Do you get shutdowns or lock ups?

sound's a tad warm.
the short list of thing's to check.
proper application of thermal grease.
heat sink properly installed .
is the heat sink up to the task.
core voltage at proper setting?

Sounds warm. For reference - running a 700 SlotA at 900. Since half the cpu case had to be removed to install the goldfinger the temp probe from my KA7-100 is as close to the core as it can be instead of on the heatsink side. I am currently running at 39C - 102F. That's stock cooling that comes with a retail proc. Of course, if you have a socket Tbird then the comparison is not valid.

I'm running a 900Mhz Tbird on an Abit KT7-RAID, my idle temp is 82f, and full load maxes out at 114 degrees.
I'm running a Chrome Orb (Thermaltake) on the processor, a Blue Orb on the Radeon vid card, a Cooler Master slot fan (below vid card) and two Cooler Master 80x80mm fans drawing air out the back of my Antec case (one in power supply replacing stock fan). This is a negative pressure setup and nets me a system temp of ambient room temp plus 6 degrees, or around 75 to 77 degrees.
According to what I read in the PDF file on the AMD website, 140 degrees is about 5 degrees below burnout temp.
Another possible cause of this may be a tiny gap between the base of the heatsink and the die on the top of the processor chip (a friend had this problem). Take the board out of the case, place a bright light source on one side of the processor and look thru from the other side with a magnifying glass (do this without any heatsink paste between heatsink and processor). My friend discovered an approximately 3 thousandths gap between the processor and the heatsink.

I have a case fan aswell
I'm running the Asus PC probe and the CPU temp is sitting around 58C/137F to 60C/140F
I swaped to the heatsink and fan that came with the 900Mhz cpu and it seems to be keepings it cooler than the Thermaltake 'Golden Orb' fan
umm I don't know what to do to get this heat down.
The only thing I can think of is taking to a company and getting them to check it all, at lest that will give me a warranty just incase it overheats again.
yes I say again because I was running a Athlon 800Mhz and the temp was 72C and it melted the CPU and motherboard, that was a $1000 leasion that I don't want to go thro again.

My 1GHz runs about that hot under an extreme load, and idle is at about 52C. It doens't lock up or have any other problems, but i just got it build and i was forced to us the retail HS and fan, and I'm still waiting to get some Actic Silver and a nice H/S. most people agree that 50C is the highest it should get. If it's not locking up too bad, the it should be ok for a while, but consider getting it fixed, and maybe getting a new heatsink.

'Golden Orb' ???? I didnt think they made a SocketA golden orb. A socket 7 Gorb will fit on the socketA but it wont work right. The design is not correct to compress the pads 20+lbs presure is needed. ThermalTake socketA orbs are the Chrome orb "big yuck" and super orb "yuck". They will work but there are better than orbs out there. The orb line seems to have never found a niche in socketA performance.

Maybe thats the prob! thay gave me the wrong h/s fan...
I've got the standed /s fan on it now and moved the case fan and it seems to be sitting on about 44C / 111F and thats alot cooler
thats a heat im happy with
but I will still get it looked at
thanks
