Anybody have used 98lite?

I plan to test-use 98lite in win95 for donation 'cause ie is not necessary and the will not be connected to the web. How do I install 98lite? Do I install first 95 and install 98lite? or vise versa.

Okay jonathan I caught you and your busted!:D

Most people have had success with it so its worth a try, you have to read the instructions fully though even if you don't get it rite you can format and try again, suggest you use the automatic install.

I got this from the web... 98lite (http://www.litepc.com/download.html) - Configure your system your way for maximum performance and stability. Takes standard Windows features and transforms them into optional components. Even Internet Explorer can be removed. Installs components into the Windows add and remove options and you can restore any feature you remove.

I use 98lite. You don't need to install Win95 first. Just install 98lite, then it will ask for your win98 cd to copy the installation files.

If you choose "Sleek" installation, then you will need 3 files from win95: EXPLORER.EXE, SHELL32.DLL, COMDLG32.DLL. Best to use win95b files rather than win95a or retail. If you also have a win95 cd, you can put that in the drive when prompted and it will extract those 3 files.

BTW, it is also ME lite.

Erm - you need to have windows 98 installed before you can use 98 lite

No you don't. You can clean install 98lite. :t 98lite runs in dos.

oh ok. I use X-teq X-setup for that. It even lets you change your blue screen of death:) Mine was a deep red with yellow writing in 9x. . . but in XP I have never seen one. It also perfoms options on XP, 2000, NT, and several computer games

Just to be very clear... in a newly formatted drive, I install first 98lite, but how? Will I run boot disk first and in the A:\ prompt how do I open 98lite to install? What's the command? There's no windows yet. Will I run dir and in A:\prompt type the exe?:confused: :confused: :(

OK i'm here late

but i find IE Eradicator a much better tool than 98lite

and yes is made by 98lite

but 98lite is not even an OS

it's just a stripped down 98 without the IE with files replaced from Win95

so if you just want speed get the IEERADICATOR from 98lite website

and only take out the IE from the Win98 OS

then use Mozilla / Opera / Phoenix

Just run it from A:\ and it will ask where to install the 98lite files. Tell it where, and the program will start up and ask what type of integration you want. Choose sleek, it will copy the install files to the hard drive, and ask for the win95 files. Then it will install win98.

It actually works best with Win98se, rather than the first Win98 in my experience.

I also have this when I read the 98lite, thanks AllGamer... but want to try 98 lite and if I have it fine, I'll do it in my own PC.

98 does not just strip out IE, it allows you to remove chunky features such as preview panes etc in order to increase system stability :D

98lite Pro is a great program. It sorted out my misbehaving IE which nearly resulting in me having to reinstall Win98 and app. This systems been running for two years with no problems. Use Opera nowadays, but I know you do not need this anyway. I said goodbye to IE a year ago.

98lite Pro will work just fine.

Note that some programs require IE V4+ to be installed prior to their installation. Otherwise the installation is aborted. You will need a special .inf file that is downloadable from www.litepc.com or a Windows Registry tweak will do the same.
