Say I wanted to burn a CD of "live" (in concert) audio tracks. When I play this in a home or car stereo, I want the tracks to be continuous (i.e. no brief gaps between tracks) but I still want to be able to jump around between tracks (as if on shuffle or random) rather than burn one large (complete album) file. Using Nero 5.5.etc how would I go about doing this?

Check the box to eliminate the gap between tracks.

1. first record the media and save it as a .wav file.
2. in Nero highlight the track and select properties.
3. click the "Images,Splits and Tracks" tab.
4. mark you desired split positions (takes real patience and practice to get this right).
5. click apply and confirm splitting into 1 gazillion tracks and close properties.
6 select first track and invert selection in "Edit".
7. Right click the selected tracks and select properties again, Set "Pause" to Zero, then click apply.
Record in normal way. Dinner is up.

STRAWBS, why are you making it so difficult? None of that is necessary. Just check the box to eliminate the gap between tracks. I burned a lot of live CD's that way and they perform just as sm8000 wants them to. Thats why the election box is there.

Thanks guys, I will give both suggestions a shot whenever I get a chance to change out my CD-ROM for my burner (pain in the @$$). One more question - if I rip the CD first, should I just do it as normal, or record it from a Discman via line-in so it's all one file and then split into tracks?

if the recording is a single track you need to split the single "live" track or you end up with a single track, which sm8000 said he didn't want.

The original poster was not very clear.
I assume he downloaded the tracks of a live session or owns a CD of a live session and just wants to delete the gaps between tracks and still be able to skip ahead or back to a specific track. If that is his intention, he should do what I suggested. If I misunderstood, then what you are advising would be correct.
He'll probably never post back so I doubt that we'll learn what he really meant.

no need, is easier to just copy the track to the HDD then burn it back to a CD compilation
you can choose to use MP3 or WAV format

1.)Sorry if I misled you....
2.)That's exactly what I want.
3.)Like I said, I will give both ideas a shot and report back.

BTW thanx to AllGamer for answering my 2nd question. Cheers!

Okay, I just tried the first idea. I could only find it in Nero Express (I'm using version 5.5.9.0) - that is, the box to uncheck: "pause between gaps" or something like that. But it didn't work, it has gaps. In the regular Nero there's an option to "remove silence at end of *.cda tracks". Should I give that one a shot with mp3's? I suppose I could try disc-to-disc copy (that option would probably work then) but that would involve removing my second hard drive and popping the CD-ROM back in its place (baby ATX case). In any case I'm going to line-in the disc now as a .wav and try Strawbs's idea.

The hell with it, I switched out the drives and did a disc-to-disc copy. Works like a charm. However I am still going to try Strawbs's idea - ultimately it will have to be my method (I'm not switching out drives every time I want to burn a disc!). Guess I'm asking for a Discman for Christmas.
