I was wondering. I have a CD-R that is on the approved list, the Plextor PX-R412cSi. Can I use my regular CD-ROM to read a copy-protected game CD to write an image file to the HD, and then use my Plextor to write the image from the HD to a blank CD,
OR do I have to use the Plextor for both tasks?
I did the 1st scenario, and found that the burned CD could not be read by my regular CD-ROM.

I usually use Nero to just "Copy CD". What ever CD I want to make a copy of goes in normal (DVD in my case) and blank goes in CD-RW. I would think you would be able to do the same with your Burner and software. I've never had a problem of not being able to read the CD I burned in a regular CD-ROM doing it this way. (Adaptec's EZ CD has the same feature.)

I use CloneCD ...use the copy to file feature first, then copy to CD. Works every time, and even does backups of Playstation games.

What about those Video CDs, I once tried to backup some of my classic movie collection. But I just ended up with couple of coasters. Someone told me just like DVD movies the video cds also have some type of copy protection.
Any one have any ideas?

Simple, try it. It could be that the cd you tried to copy, had protection techniques that your cdrom couldn't read. Sub channel data comes to mind.
Just make an image of it with your plexy, then burn. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Also,smokin1 makes a good point, CloneCD rocks.
