Is it worth it? (secondary subject line) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

A friend of mine is buying a used laptop from a friend.
Specs,
Compaq 1170 or 1270?
333 MHZ Processsor, assuming AMD K6-2
32 Megs Ram
Win 98
Internet Ready (?)

These are the specs that his friend relayed to my friend.

I am assuming that the recovery disk is/should be included.

The guy is asking for...
$550.00

I am not too familiar with laptops but I think the price would be more reasonable at
$450.00 or so.

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance!

No, not in my opinion at least. I, personally have had very little dealings with lap tops...but Compaqs don't seem to be in as much demand as Dell and IBM are. I paid $380 for a P133 Dell abouts 6 months ago, and have had several offers to make a (slight) profit. So, Maybe $450 to $500 would be more in the ball park

I found one at eBay that comes close, but I think is a better model, and has more ram, 6 gig HDD, 56 K modem...ect.

Thanks Bovon!

Anyone else want to give me a opinion on the price?

I would only suggest that your friend check out some new ones before he spends any cash on a used one. Nothing against used stuff but notebooks generally can't be upgraded so starting out old stays old. You can get probably double the laptop now for not quite $1000. I know that's a big jump from $550 but he would be way ahead. Remember that clock for clock notebooks are slower than desktops so that 333 will seem really slow.
