For a case with front USB access, are there any special requirements for the mother board? That is, other than being a USB port facilitated board?

Yes, besides the USB ports at the back, most mobos have connectors to link two or more ports to the front. Casings which support front USB come with the wiring for these on-board connectors.

These extra USB connectors can be used for either front panel usage or for extra ports in the back, taking up an expansion slot.
