Hello I am trying to put together a new system but I can't get it to boot up or even post. So far all I have in it is a Thunderbird 900, 1 stick of 256MB of PNY memory and a Western Digital HD and a Hercules 3D Prophet II. And an Abit KT7A-RAID mb
The first time the monitor came on and said soemthing about the defaults were not correct, but then it cut out. I couldn't get into the BIOS and now I can't do anything. It won't post or anything.
I know the Thunderbird needs a lot of power and my power supply is 300W. If it was a power supply problem would the fans turn and the lights come on but no action?

are you getting any beeps???
judging from what you have said above i would say your video card is loose or your monitor cable is loose.

Nope, no beeps at all. I don't know if it beepd or not hte first time cos I had the radio too loud but I assume it did. Now I hit power the fans all go, teh tower lights go on but no beeps ever come. I tried taking out and reseating the video card many times and moving the montior cable around but nothing ever works. I cleared the CMOS too and nothing.

Double-check your heatsink and fan. If it's loose or not there, your chip is dead.
Tbirds and Durons die in less than 10 seconds without a heatsink fan on them, in contrast to orig pentiums that could run all day without.

when I first fired this board up it was set in BIOS for something stupid like wake on mouse...I had to set it for wake on power button to get it to load the OS so it could find the mouse...look for something silly like that, maybe a jumper set wrong..

That reminds me that if I let it sit for a little bit the keyboard lights won't come on at all. When I first hit the power button they flash but after that they don't illuminate at all.
I'm pretty sure the heatsink and fan are on correctly. It's locked on all the way and the fan starts up when I hit power. When I get home from work I will unplug the hard drive. Maybe it's not getting enough power or osmething.

Did u reset your Cmos and try to go back into bios?

Yeah I tried. Which reminds me of another question I forgot to ask. On my old BE6-II when I'd clear teh CMOS and remove the jumper it would start up, but with this one it doesn't, is it supposed to be like that? Maybe the board is dead

I had the same problem with a motherboard from MSI. called them and they sent out a new 1 pretty quick.

I'd check to make sure u have all of the jumper settings set correctly. Check to see if ur CMOS battery is dead, replace it if possible. Make sure all ur cables (ie. IDE, power, etc.) are connected properly.
That;s all I can think of for now...

u can try a minimal boot up too leave the modem and soundcard out. Have u used this ram before if not try some other ram u know works with bad ram u wont get anything to show on monitor. OR have u already fixed it good luck

Page 2-12 of the motherboard manual says that you must turn the power off including the +5V standby before you clear the CCMOS1 with pins 2&3. Either unplug the power supply from the wall or flip the switch on the power supply itself. Move the jumper back to pins 1&2 before turning the power back on.

Thanks for all the replies. I already cleared the CMOS with it unplugged but tried again and no luck. I only had the CPU, memory and video card in the whole time. Never plugged anything else into the IDE ports or the power supply. The memory worked on my other system.
I even took the motherboard out of the case and set it on teh anti-static mat it came in and tried to boot it from that with the power supply and video card attached but still no beeps or anthing on the monitor at all. And yes I did have the CPU fan connected to the first pin. I have tried different memory and video cards and nuthin. So I guess it's either the motherboard, the CPU or maybe the power supply is nto giving me enough power for the Thunderbird.
I called Axiontech and told them I think it's 1 of the 3 I just mentioned adn they said they would replace the motherboard, hopefully that is all it is.
Thanks again
