Formatted and reinstalled on correct part. Now whenever windows boots I get a dual boot prompt (only the first option works). How do I fix this prob? Midknyte 11-08-2002, 12:54 PM you need to edit the boot.ini file and remove the entry for the wrong OS. El_Brio 11-08-2002, 01:54 PM Hmmmm... The only boot.ini file is the one in the partition magic directory. There is two entries there. I put a "rem" in front of the second one and it didn't help.... more info is needed to fix problem. AllGamer 11-08-2002, 01:58 PM no no it should be at the Boot record so it should always be in your C: drive in the root try enabling your show system file and dissabling hide files and also enable show extension and well you know the drill :t El_Brio 11-08-2002, 02:06 PM Frogot to show all file types ok here is the file: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect just delete the last entry or what? Midknyte 11-08-2002, 02:20 PM ugh. kinda sick here. sorry for the late response. where did you install the bad OS? Look at the partition numbers. You have 1 hard drive and at least 3 partitions. is the bad one on partition 1 or 3? delete accordingly. multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3 )\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect El_Brio 11-08-2002, 02:31 PM Hmmm. I should have only 2 partitions..... I checked in partition magic anfd one part is only like 8mb what is that? Hmmm. The good install was on the 1 partition. Midknyte 11-08-2002, 02:35 PM if you used the win2k cd to create your partitions, then it would have allocated 8mb free space for dynamic disk conversion. this is totally normal. partition magic might have taken that free space and formatted it. Just delete the line with the partition 3 in it and you should be golden. :) El_Brio 11-08-2002, 02:52 PM fixed. Muchas Gracias. hehehe. Midknyte 11-08-2002, 03:05 PM No problemo. sorry, I don't know any spanish. :( El_Brio 11-08-2002, 04:23 PM neither do I. el_brio is just a nick. I am not mexican SysOpt.com
