Ok, this is probably a stupid question, but I'm gonna ask anyhow. What is the back plate of a computer case called (providing there even is a name for it). And, can these be bought alone (like as a separate piece)? Well, that was two dumb questions... heh :D

do you mean the rear I/O panel where all the ports come out of? I'm sure you can buy them separately, but they are usually included with the motherboard. You'll have to look at what kind of port configuration you have before you buy.

I'm not sure how to explain it, but I'm talking about the entire back panel of the computer case - where there are openings for the ports, slots, psu, etc. Hope I'm making some sense here :x

I think it's just the "back plate." On a car, it would be called the "rear valence," if that's any help. The front of the computer case is called the "front bezel." :x

It's extremely unlikely that you will find a back panel as they are an integral part of the case that is partially standardized and partially proprietary. In short, they don't sell them separately. What are you trying to do?

Actually they do sell them separately at some places, like Fry's Electronics in the U.S., but they're the standard ps/2 keyboard, ps/2 mouse, 2 usb, lan, parallel port, 2 serial ports (one can be monitor if built in video since it's the same size), game port, and sound ports.
They can also be called I/O shields.

Some are removable...you can actually mount the motherboard, cpu...ram..and on some models, all of the cards...then, slide the 'backplate' into the case, and secure it.

Ol'Tunzafun - I'm trying to be able to use the case I have instead of having to buy a new one. Problem is, I need a higher-watt power supply and this case I have only has an opening in the back for a micro-atx psu. I'll probably just buy another case - more economical in the long run, I suppose.
Giblet - had no idea that the front of the case was called that, thanks! (I also didn't know about the rear valence thing either.. heh:p )
omega31 - thanks for the info!! :D
Bovon - I'm not sure I have a handle on my OWN question either... heheh. It's just really hard for me to explain. The opening for the psu is the one I'm most concerned about. Thanks!! :t
--I think I'll just buy a new case and be done with it - more mobo choices in the atx form factor anyhow ;)

Ooook, everyone... I think I just realized my error, here. I thought that there were screws that held the back plate of my computer case on to the sides, but upon further investigation, they aren't screws at all - they are certainly "screw-like" things, but I'm pretty sure it can't be detached. Oh well, don't I feel like a dumb@ss!!!! :x :D

What I would do is buy a dremel instead of a new case and make the power supply fit. :)
If you don't want to do that, the chieftec/antec cases are very nice. I have the red chieftec mid tower aluminum case. :):)

Oh my, Giblet - you are going to require me to display my stupidity once again..heheh :D
Here goes: What in the world is a dremel???
I'll check out those cases, btw ;)
Thanks!!

A dremel is a particular cutting tool that is used to modify (in some cases mutilate) PC cases :)

shark_megabyte - hey, I like that name ;) Anyways, I think I should probably stick to getting a new case - knowing my luck, I'd probably end up mutilating myself!! :p
Thanks for the info!
