hey all,

Yah i just got NFS on my computer and started to play the game and it crashes to my desktop saying device failure. Now i used to have this problem before with all my games I played. SO i returned my video card and got it replaced. That fixed all my problems, battlefield 1942, quake 3, 3DMark2001SE, it all works now. SO then i decided to try NFS Hot pursuit 2. Play it at lowest quality and play almost a whole race and bang crashes. So then i put the graphics up to the higest and it crashes after 10 seconds!! I have a temp monitor of my cpu and it was pushing my cpu up to 65 degrees celcius. Now when i play Battlefield 1942 or anything else it pushes 52 degrees celcius. Here are my specs

XP 1800+
Ga-7VAXP
ATI Radeon 8500 64 Meg DDR(catalyst 2.3)
512 meg of DDR 333 cl2
sound blaster 5.1 live!
striped two WD 80 gig 7200 rpm ATA100

Any one have similar problems, solutions anything???

Help would be apreciated!!!

there's a problem with R8500 and NFSHP2. R8500 owners should put all video quality sliders to the left one notch from max settings. That solved my problems. Before i did this, the game crashed to the desktop all the time.

You should use the 6193 drivers as well.

Actually your temperature is way too high

i have my 8500 with all the stuff maxed and i've no problem

but my temp is below 55 in game

also i'm using Standard PC configuration for stability and performance

hey yah i know it is way to hot, usually its not as bad but i know what could be doing it.. i put to much artic silver on it so this weekend im goign to clean my cpu and re do it. i read up about it a two days ago and realised i was insulating my cpu creating it to get hotter then cooler, so i am going to try this and hope it fixes it!!

Oh yay, do you have any sugestions for the heat sink and fan im using, like i am only using the box fan and heat sink which isnt the greatest espeaically if i start over clocking it. Any recomendations?

Thanks

I had issues with this game demo on my comp. I was using the nvidia detonator 41.03 drivers for my Geforce 4 ti4600 and the thing just would not even load. Reverting back to the 30.82 drivers fixed that problem easily. I realise that you're not even using an Nvidia card, but I figured someone else with a similar problem might look here.

BTW, that game is gorgeous, and at full details, 1024x768 4xAA it stumbles at times. Turning the world detail just a tad lower solves this annoyance.
