Can I use a webcam to double as a "surveilance" camera?

We are having a problem with one of the kids raiding the cupboards late at night, and quite a bit of "I don't knows" and " it wasn't me"
I have a good vantage point where my computer is set up , so I was wondering if there is a way to record video from the web cam to the hard drive for later viewing.

Thanks,

Bill

My IT guys in our dept said they had set up their web cam to take a pic if 10% of the field changed due to movement. i will find out how they did this and let you know. Web cams are great for surveilance.

Just go to downloads.com and do a search for surveilance!
You will find plenty of software that works with different PC-Cams.

Creative Web Cam Blaster has motion sensing..

Watch out for the refresh, it don't take much to have Multi-Gigs of video captured..

If it is a Logitech WebCam, you have it in the program that comes with it. If you are at work and would like to take a peek in on the house when you are away, you can set up a broadcast, Live or single picture taken at certain intervals. Get the address to the show, and view when ever you would like. (If you have a puter at work.)

Cheers!

by motion sensing do you mean that the cam activates when it detects motion ?.

Yes.

The Video Blaster WebCam Monitor application uses sophisticated motion detection to take a snapshot when anybody -- or anything -- gets near your PC
