I just purchased a DVD drive. I was reading that a MPEG decoder card may be required. I dont think one is included with the drive. Will I need this card to view movies on my PC? What else is required? Will the original Win95 (950a) support DVD? I am planning on upgrading my OS but was trying to hold out for Win2000. Thanks for the help.

Im not sure about the Windows 95 question, but you dont need a decoder card to watch the movies. You do need to get a software decoder though, something like PowerDVD, etc. there are quite a few, if you get a decoder, you will be able to take all the strain off your cpu to watch the movies. For the software decoding they recommend a P2 300 and up to get decent frame rates for your movies.

Also what kind of video card do you have, it must support DVD playback, such as a TNT, V3 or a TNT2, and also some of the ATI series.
Without that you wont be able to do anything unless you get a decoder card, with a decoder card you dont need an awesome video card to watch the movies.

Thanks for the info. I am currently running a celeron 400 with a CL TNT video card so I guess I will try the software route first.
Thanks again.
