Well, I was working with Gen_Hideki_tojo to help and build his system, and after getting it all up and running, I decided to see if the T-Bred B had all the headroom everybody was talking about. Well, I must say, I'm quite amazed. With ordinary air cooling, the CPU manages 2.25 GHz! (150*15)
I've never been able to bring an AMD CPU up this high without increases in voltage or cooling ability. That extra metal layer really did the trick, I must say... and the best thing is IT ACTUALLY RUNS COOL! At default clocks, it doesn't exceed 40C maxload. Try that with a palomino.
Palomino 1533. Little headroom - stock cooling - high heat - 133MHz O/C. 1.85V. 55C maxload.
T-Bred B 2000. Much headroom - stock cooling - low heat - 250MHz O/C. 1.65V. 40C maxload. :D
Tomorrow I will install the innovatek in that Chieftec dragon of his, IMO an EXTREMELY innovative case. I've never had SUCH EASE installing stuff, with the levered, fanned HDD cages (only gripe- makes the HDDs go too far back) and the captive screw FDD bay. The locking 5.25 bays are awesome as well... now I see why Alienware and others chose it...
And to top it off, that guy has 1GB of Corsair CL2 PC3200 in there.
...and an R300 as well!
Too bad I can't get mommy and daddy to buy me a system; I have to earn the money. Man, what a lucky SO*. :(

caustic...
What stepping was the XP2400+? Also, did you play around with cpu multipliers, or is this cpu still locked? Do you know what it takes to unlock? I really like the temps you are reporting... gives me hope for the XP2700+, etc. that will be 166 fsb, coupled with my ThermalRight AX7 :D
Also, did you have to bump up the vdimm?

wow... that's without voltage increases eh? My Tbird can only go 100mhz without the need of a v increase to 1.85...that extra layer really did do the trick. i know what i'm asking mommy for! :D :t

I have that case too. It is awesome!
My xp2000 can OC 166 mhz without a core voltage increase. (AROIA), so not all amds are horrible OCers, but a 250 mhz OC would be even better! :)
I have a friend who just got a 2400 and a ax-7, following my advice. He doesn't want to overclock it! :(

OK, to answer all of your questions..
1) The CPU is of the first T-Bred B stepping. (I think) ... I'll have to check it..
2) The 8-K5a3+ has dividers capable of allowing 333 FSB operation with the PCI and AGP busses running in spec.
3) The DIMMS are of CL2 PC3500 type, which means they can run at 216.5 MHz without any need for vdimm increase or timing conservation.
4) The CPU will run at 2800+ 2.25GHz frequencies without any voltage increase (1.65V), but upping it even the least bit more requires a massive jump to 1.85v. :r
5) The chieftec dragon is not done modding yet... we just drilled holes in the bottom for the EHEIM pump. One is large enough to bring the power connector through the front and the others allow us to loop ties around the wire, leading it toward the back of the case and exiting between the two back feet.
6) Eventually we will install cold cathode lighting. :x We already have installed rounded IDE cables, and it will be a fury of color once this is done! I promise I will post pics of the finished project.
7) I will try to raise the FSB to DDR333 speed and get the CPU up to 2.49. Address my concerns here (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=122010). :t

Where are you putting the radiator? A good spot I found would be on the right side near the front under the drive cases, with the fans blowing sideways across. You'd have to do some dremel work to make holes in the side, but it would be pretty clean.
You also might have to lose a drive cage or two to do it that way, but it would get better flow than putting it in front, and you'd have all your 5.25 bays free. Then you could flip the front fans and have them exhaust.

We've already modded the back of the case so that the maxxxpert radiator can be mounted above the PSU. It's sitting sideways, with the fan pushing air out. But the HDD cage thing is a good idea for midi tower cases :t

Eventually all Athlon XPs will be on the Tbred-B stepping. I wonder, will an XP 2000 "B" overclock as well as the XP 2400?

I'm pretty sure it will be within 100 MHz of the 2400 B. :D

I have one gripe about those cases... i have 2 of them, and i want removable motherboard tray!!!... oh well.. just have to drill out the rivetts and tap some threads and make it screwable!
