I get the illegal operations box at all different time. not necessarily when I am doing one thing in particular. Recently I was at a web site and tried to save the page, I got the error, clicking links to go to the next web page can produce it, clicking x when I am done with a web site, and even when I shut down.
Thanks a million
Angie

I'll c&p my email response:

Try reinstalling your AOL 4.0 first. Before you start, Use
Ctrl+Alt+Del to close any running programs, except Systray and Explorer.
Then start reinstalling. When it finishes, it will probably tell you to
reboot by hitting OK (or similar) In any case, make sure your restart your
computer.

(Win98, AOL4.0)

Let us know how it goes, and don't forget the "Details" http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hi Angiecatw1

I think you mean WAOL? Happens when you are on AOL? Can you describe what you are doing immediately before the error pops up and please list the "details" in the error message.

Did you reinstall AOL yet?

Guessing... Perhaps you are low on system resources.

How many programs do you have running in the system tray or background? Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del once and close some unneeded programs. See if that frees up some resources.

How much RAM do you have?

Are you running Norton Utilities/Crashguard?

This one I know- Sometimes aol is doing maintanence that can cause WAOL errors. Other times removing the aol network adaptor in device manager (it replaces itself when you next sign on) and rebooting can fix this.
If it doesnt reinstalling aol from the cd will do the trick. If you d/led aol- there are plenty of cd availible bundled with many computer magazines, or you can just d/l again- incidentaly you could check keyword upgrade every couple months to see if a new build is availible. Although I've heard some say they had to go back to an earlier version by reinstalling from the cd.
my 2 cents worth...

Before I stopped useing AOL and converted to www.Netzero.net (http://www.Netzero.net) .

I used to get this error when I installed an older version of their software and AOL did online update, crashed everytime. Had to download the 4.0 latest version then uninstall all relations to AOL then install the newly downloaded software and it work until the next update came out.

AOL users your getting ripped off, join the community of free ISP users.

my 2 cents.
