It will make a good linux box! You might want to add another hard drive, there are several in the User to User, Biz to Biz, Product Exchange Forum at good prices!

I have a similar box, but it is a laptop, and has 80 RAM. I tried running Win98 on it but it was sluggish. I went back and tried Windows 95 and I must say I am pretty happy with it. I have yet to get over 0 page file size running two IE screens and Microsoft Word. The machine is responsive. I played Warcraft II and Red Alert last night. There are still some things you can do with these dinosaurs http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
ladyj8sus- go to the Sysopt main forum (http://www.sysopt.com/cgi-bin/forum/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true) . It's towards the bottom. Best of luck!

I use a 133w/80mb EDO, and 1.5GB hard drive.
I use it in my shop to run win98, office 2000, peachtree accounting, and some cabinet design software. I access the internet with it and connect to my home network Via Virtual Private Networking.
It does all this without a hitch, sure it is a little slow, but not so slow that its annoying.

I have use an AST that was a Pentium 100 originally. After some investigation I found that I had an Intel motherboard that would support a 200 hz Pentium (Non-MMX) with jumper changes or a Pentium OverDrive 200 hz MMX without changing any jumpers. I found a 200 hz for $37 and an 200 hz Overdrive with MMX for $51. This change (200MMX)along with the 80 MB of memory has kept this PC running for 5 years now. It's not a game machine but it does everything else I have needed.

My grandfather has an AST p133. Could this motherboard accomodate a K6-2 550 processor if it has the proper voltage and has a Socket 7 socket?

What model AST? ARI Service provides support for older AST's.
