In my friends' computer. Packard-Bell mini-tower, with two fans intake/exhaust, with old box AMD HS/F, Gigabyte 7ZX SDRAM mobo. Fan is not spinning, temps are about 65° at full load.
Kul  :D

Kul  :D OpK Chowdy 11-05-2002, 08:51 PM LOL....i'll try running my Tbird 1.5 without a fan...yeah...:D Giblet Plus! 11-06-2002, 12:11 AM You can run pretty much any modern processor without a fan if you declock it 200 mhz or so. :p Grentarc 11-06-2002, 03:15 AM I have a friend who had his XP 1800+ (at stock  ) and he uses a Volcano 7+ HSF.. well, we turned on his machine, played MOHAA at a LAN for around 3 hrs, then played some JK2 then decided to burn a cd... after all that, he got a BSOD, rebooted, then wouldnt find NTLDR.... he said some bad words  then decided to re-install windows XP.... wouldnt do it.. so he took the side off his cxase.. looked at the Volcano 7+.. went  plugged the fan in, and turned the speed to medium. the fan wasnt plugged into the speed controller.. and he didnt have software monitoring his temps... XP1800+ running with no fan, pure Cu HS and no case fans, except PSU... RamonGTP 11-06-2002, 03:54 AM Did you guys happen to touch the HSF to see how hot it was before you plugged the fan back in??? Just curious. -Ramon Giblet Plus! 11-06-2002, 12:59 PM Originally posted by Grentarc XP1800+ running with no fan, pure Cu HS and no case fans, except PSU... That only worked because copper can absorb so much heat. If he left it without the fan long enough, it would eventually toast iteself, because the heat is given off by the processor at a much faster rate than it's released by the fanless heatsink Grentarc 11-06-2002, 08:06 PM nah.. didnt touch it, but his motherboard (GA-7VRXP) has the overheating protection enabled at 85°C.. so it wasnt that hot yet... gibsinep 11-06-2002, 09:09 PM And who says AMD chips need a fan. :p Giblet Plus! 11-07-2002, 08:43 PM Originally posted by gibsinep And who says AMD chips need a fan. :p LOL Did anyone see that link where they cooked eggs on the cpu? http://www.handyscripts.co.uk/egg.asp NDD 11-07-2002, 09:52 PM We make coffee on ours :p :D gibsinep 11-07-2002, 10:32 PM Nothin but bacon over here for me. I have 3 good cookers now. :p Optimus Prime 11-08-2002, 01:12 PM Originally posted by Giblet Plus! NDD 11-09-2002, 10:06 PM Pretty hot, actually :p :D gibsinep 11-09-2002, 10:30 PM lol yea :D causticVapor 11-10-2002, 07:27 PM The next step would be to have the CPU's heat drive a generator so that it could run off its own thermal dissipation, in conjunction with some solar panels. :D :x NDD 11-11-2002, 12:00 AM I promise to give my thought to this idea of yours ;) Grentarc 11-11-2002, 02:34 AM if you ran some really bright lights from your PSU (eg - with an invertor or sumfin) then you could stick the solar pannels in the case and with a window in the side, it would look awesome:x :x causticVapor 11-11-2002, 09:54 AM ...And use the fan wind to drive an alternate turbine generator! Optimus Prime 11-11-2002, 11:17 AM but if the cooling is driven by heat, when the cooling turns on, it will turn off, because it is cooling what is powering it. :x. causticVapor 11-11-2002, 01:26 PM No, no no... the EXHAUST fans to keep it from OVERheating! NDD 11-11-2002, 07:13 PM Yes, but what about the turbine ? SysOpt.com
