My spec's are on http://machine.beemerworld.com (sorry about the slow loading of the page)

I will have WinY2K in my hot little hands within the hour. Purchased it from the US and it took its sweet time getting here. I'll be dual booting as I have already set a Logical DOS Partition of 4 gig's for Win98se and a Extended DOS Partition of 24 gig's and left a blank of about 1gig not tabled as of yet for the swap of WinY2K.
According to my configuration and everything that is hardware is upgraded to Win98 version, what will I have to do with the install of WinY2K? Should I upgrade all the hardware now while I'm on Win98?

The system is not O/C'ed (YET)
Be back in an hour with a smile on my face.

Cheers!

Is it full version or the cheap upgrade version?

Hey Beemer, haven't talked to you in awhile, congrats on the new machine!

The win2k install will pretty much take care of the hardware upgrades, and what it doesn't you can do after the install.

Have you done your research into installing win2k for dual boot?

When you are in Windows 98, put the Cd for Win2k into the drive, and it will ask if you want to Upgrade or Installa clean copy of the OS. You will tell it to install a clean copy. Then, it will set up the dual boot for you automatically.
As for the hardware, What do you have now? You don't want to have less than 128 megs of RAM, really. And I am running it on my office PC with only a celeron 466, and it runs just fine.

Hi darrelld. Thanks! Good to type at you again. Been pretty busy with school and building this machine. This is a lot more fun then a Compaq 4540/233MHz-32MB's of EDO RAM. I'm going to buy another stick of Micron next month. I think a stick of 512MB's of PC-133 is in order. I slight O/C with safety in mind. I'm new to this hardware stuff, but it hasn't proven to be to hard yet.

Just starting the research now, basically. I have a few links set aside for dual boot troubleshooting and hardware related issues.

This is full version WinY2k there tWiZtEr. Nothing but the best. Bought it from the US as it was cheaper. They wanted $480.00 CAN here in London Drugs. Total price USD/Shipping and GST/PST charged at the border, $253.05 CAN. The Canadian Government doesn't exactly help us, "Buy Canadian" now does it!?

Cheers!

Not fun so far. WinY2K doesn't see my hard drive. Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 45, 30.7 gig.

Any ideas floating around? I checked the maxtor site and found nothing on WinY2K issues.

Cheers!

Hey Beemer, I have the same hard drive in my comp and im running win2k. It detected it just fine in mine. You might want to check the cables and stuff to make sure they are connected and the jumpers are connected properly. Is the drive detected in win98? other than that i cant think of much else other than to tell you that hard drive doesnt have any problems on my machine in win2k. By the way, that looks like a nice system. Puts my celery 850 to shame... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I was way over due on a upgrade. Lets see how this machine fares in 3 years again.

Jumpers are all on Master. Each device has its own IDE cable on a a7v board.

Cheers!

Win2K wont see the IDE 3 and 4 controller until AFTER you have installed support for the ata100 interface. The easiest way is the put your hd's on the normal ide connections do the install and then install the promise ata100 drivers. once you have the IDE 3 & 4 found and installed then change the drives over to the ata100 channels and change your boot order to A, SCSI ect ect

Sorry to take so long getting back. School, work, and **** driver updates has kept me busy.

Yes it is running. Mntsnow passed along some info that worked like a charm.

During the beginning of the installation of WinY2K I was offered the opportunity to load any drivers by pressing F6. I was told to have the SCSI/RAID drivers handy to install at this point. I did and it loaded. there are still a few bugs to work out.

Cheers!
