I have an ATX ps that died, Ive replaced it, and opened it up, can't believe how many components in there, can't find any thing cooked, fuse is good, does any one know how to simulate the MOBO start up. (which pins) an AT you just turn the sw. any body had any success in repairing these things???

Is it worth fixing ? At the price they are, they are disposable.

I guess that is what buggs me, every thing is now disposable. a $30.00 unit fails for a probably $1.00 component and goes to the landfill.

Have you tried it lately? I've had ATX supplies that "played 'possum" and were just fine the next day!

The pinout for the connector should be in your mobo manual. A load is required to make it turn on, a friend uses a "dead" board for testing PSUs.

Do a search in this Forum for a link to a typical ATX circuit diagram.

I'm sure there's something about switch mode power supplies in the sci.electronics.repair faq. Do a google search for the FAQ. I'm sure there are several sites that keep a copy of it. You need to short two of the wires for the power supply to activate. I just don't remember which two.

If the problem is obvious, like a cold solder joint or a blown fuse, then it's definitely worth your time to fix it. No sense in throwing out a perfectly good power supply due a simple problem.

TNX guys. guess I live in the past, when we repaired things, radios, toasters, washing machines, and the shoemaker resoled our shoes. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif some times I think we are to affluent for our own good.

Hi, if you are still wanting to test that PS without a mobo hooked to it, here is a nice little article on how to do it that might help you. http://www.virtualhideout.net/guides/atx_psu_mods/index.shtml
Hope it helps

no problem, just glad to be of service http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I stumbled across that site from someone who made a post about customizing cases here on sysopt. Or painting them i think. I spent a couple hours checking out all those mods for cases. The fanbus idea is a great one. 12V for summer and 5V for winter. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Looks like time for some mods.
