need an answer to a dumb question
will an XP cpu work on a abit kt7a (probably rev 1.0 or 1.1)
if so will they all work or just to a set speed??

I wouldn't chance it. We have seen many posts about Abit boards that were "supposed to" be XP-capable, but were not.
Here's a clip from a BIOS update for your board:
"Support AMD Athlon XP CPU, 0.18 micron process Palomino up to 2100+ and 0.13 micron process Thoroughbred up to 2000"

Technically no - not up till revision 1.3
In some cases they will work with earlier boards, but its luck more than anything, besides with the KT7a being SDR only you'll be held back by the RAM, wait till early 2003 and pick up a 333MHz FSB XP+, DDR333 RAM and compatible mobo :)
