Hi,

I've newly installed ECS K7S5A v 3.x Motherboard with AMD Athlon 1700 Mhz , 256 Mb SD RAM.

In BIOS settings under the "CPU Pnp Setup Page" my CPU speed is displayed as 133/133 and not as 1700Mhz. I have only three options for selection as 100/100 or 100/133 or 133/133 and I could not select the 1700Mhz manually. The user manual says that it will display the CPU speed and in the example on the user manual it is shown as 700.

But when booting it is displayed as Athlon 1700 Mhz with 256Mb ram.

I request somebody to suggest me to get out of this problem to have the right CPU speed displayed in the BIOS.

Thanks in advance,

Regards,
V. Venkatesan.

The BIOS is alright in that spot. What you select there is the combination of CPU front side bus and RAM bus speeds, not the CPU's internal CORE speed.

Your correct choice there is 133/133, to run the Athlon XP bus at 133 MHz with the RAM at 133 MHz too.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your reply.

I was confused by reading the user manual and I was waiting to install the OS. Now I will go ahead on the installation of the OS.

I hope the user manual is to be corrected for not confusing the new PC assemblers.

Thanks again,

Regards,
V. Venkatesan.

To avoid further confusion: Athlon XP 1700+ is not running at 1700 MHz anyway, it's 1466 MHz. (It gives the same performance as if it were a non-XP Athlon running at 1700 MHz, hence the performance rating.)

Yep, and you dont set the actually cpu speed on that mobo just the bus's speed. Hence why it says PnP cpu setup. It sets the multi and the vcore automatically for easy install and you only tell it the cpu fsb in this case 133mhz and the ram fsb in this case 133mhz also. So like 133/133 as peter said and it should be.:t
