...can somebody please explain to me how to unlock an AMD chip? This is whats needed to manipulate the multiplyers right?

Exactly which cpu? Bridges involved vary depending on precisely which flavor of Athlon.

...not to worry guys i've found a site with some info explaining it... BTW it was a AMD athlon 1400 TB

oh boy - the pencil trick!

That was so easy. I wish my xp2000 could be unlocked that way, too.

If lucky, don't even need to do the "pencil trick" with an Athlon 1400. Many 1200-1400 MHz C Athlons shipped unlocked.
