if anyone can shed some light on this, i will forever be grateful, as i am at a complete loss as what to do next...
i used to have a p4 1.6a ghz in a gigabyte ga-8sdx mobo, overclocked at 2 gig-no problems whatsoever. however, i got mhz hungry, and decided to buy a 2.0a ghz p4 with hopes to overclock to around 2.4 ghz. this does not work at all. i tried to change the fsb multiplier in the bios (the same way that was successful with the 1.6a), but everytime i restart the computer to see if the change registered, the POST says 2.0 ghz. when i enter setup again, i have to re-enable the settings again, but they never take. i also have the latest bios version- why did this work with a 1.6, and not the 2.0? both are pentium 4 northwoods-did intel modify the architecture somehow? is there a workaround? HELP!

Does your mobo support the 2G chip (20x mult)?

Have you checked for an updated BIOS?

You're changing the FSB not the multiplier right? Intel locked the multiplier (16 on your 1.6a and 20 on your 2.0a) You can only o/c the FSB (usually 133 is fine).

I believe it supports the 2ghz chip; at it's default values (no overclocking), POST sees it @2.00ghz. Ihave the latest bios for the board (believe it is version f6) and yes, i believe i am o/c'ing the fsb-there's only one option, and it says to enter a number between 100 and 255. when i had the 1.6 in there, this worked fine. seems like the bios always resets these values after i restart....

Hey Sumaru, aren't you gonna tell us what the problem was and how you all of a sudden get your
BIOS to set to new fsb??? Let me venture a guess: you didn't click exit and SAVE, did you?!;)

temps are running on avg. 39-43c, depending on the level of cpui activity. oh, and the fix? as popeye would say "how embarriskin'"
for some reason my motherboard doesn't respond well to the F10 key when trying to o/c. i just had to scroll down to "exit saving changes"
