I Have a Abit AT7 (the first one not the new max2) I am trying to load win xp on the highpoint controler in a raid 0. I have 2 maxtor 20 gig drives. I have set up raid on this board several times with no problems. Win 2k loaded no problem and then tried to load winxp on 2nd partition (dual boot, because I couldn't get xp to load so I tried win 2k first) and when I get to the screen that says push any key to boot from cd it flashes setup is inspecting your hardware and then it goes blank. It doesn't lock up because I can hit Ctrl Alt Dlt and it resets. If I put Win2k cd in and repeat the above steps it starts fine. If I hook up a seperate HD on the regular IDE channels it starts Ok with xp cd.
Different things I have tried:
Vid card
Ide cables
Hard drives
Turning off ACPI in bios
CD rom
Different Version of XP
Master/Cable Select settings on HD
Other Hardware I am using:
XP2200
Corsair XMS 3500 512
Enermax 435W PS (Checked Voltage 5.12 and 12.45)

Rather than booting from the CD, start the upgrade from within Win2K. Just choose a new installation and (Advanced) choose the location.

I got that piece of ***** to load by putting a HD on the IDE slot 2, but when it was done it booted right into win 2k. It didn't have the option of choosing which operating system. I am trying a newer copy of xp. This one has native drivers for the Hpt 374 controler and it started from the beginning. I think there is something wrong with the controler or possibly a trace grounding issue. My bios looses it's settings every once and a while and I read in Pauls Unofficial Abit that it could be caused by a trace ground. I'll check my battery also, but seeing how this board is only 6 months old I kinda doubt it.
Anymore suggestions Bill. I shouldn't have to install it that way so there is definately a problem and I want to find it or send the board back and get a new one. I appreciate the help
Thanks,
Nate

I wish I could help, but I've never seen or heard of that particular problem. :(
