I am planning to purchase a notebook computer for personal use; which includes internet,
word-processing, some gaming and etc.

My question is:

1) Are notebook computers as easily upgradeable as desktop computers ?

2) Has anybody been able to build and overclock a notebook computer the way that a desktop can ?

3) So, if my only option is to buy one, which would be a highly-recommended choice ?

Thanks for all your help.

There are few if any clone notebooks out there.

1. They are not easy to upgrade. And never open one up. You may never get it closed. If you buy one, get whatever you want up front. Like memory, modem, etc. And be done with it.

2. See #1

3. Toshiba probably makes the best of them. I've know many users that have purchased them and have had little trouble with them.

If you get one, buy the extended warranty if you can get it. Believe me, it's worth it. They are not like desktops in many ways. They are not very durable either.

i agree 100% with you Nathan. i think notebooks are very difficult machines, i got my hands once on an old pentium 133 toshiba notebook and tried to install win98 and i almost had to send it out the window. i had to use an old copy of win95 to make the notebook work, too many complications.
i think if you want a great notebook you have to pay great money for it.
