I have got 2 Pc's of same spec. 1ghz PIII and 512MB pc133 and running Si Soft 2002. one the Abit mobo give score of 916 and the S61 mobo by Acer give 250. Acer is running better graphics card but Unreal 2k3 it totally unplayable running at about 7fps where the Ge 3 ti200 on the Abit is kicking out 30fps on same settings. I have tweaked Bios as much as it will go. Both Set ups Have memory now on CL 3-2-2. Acer went up to 260 on Sisoft but no futher. Both Via chipsets 694X-686A or B with the Abit being type B. Any software to help? Or is it time to bin the mobo? Acer website is a waste of space. Is it a problem with earlier Apollo Pro's. Please Help:confused:

As with their PCI performance, VIA chipsets' RAM performance can be fine tuned very well by caring BIOS developpers, but also screwed up royally by careless ones. If there is no newer BIOS for that slow board, and if you maxed out the settings the current BIOS has, then well, so be it.
The 686 chip, being the south bridge, does not take part in this, the only difference between A and B revisions being that the latter has UDMA-100 IDE.

The s61 has the S6101F2 bios installed. It is **** Would a different manufactures bios update work? Surely something with same basic chipset and Award bios chip? Is it there own design board or was it made by someone else? Thanks for your help and reponse so far any more ideas?

No way ... there are so many design choices around the core chipset, from PCI and RAM slots to I/O peripherals and many more details. You'll hardly find any other board that is even remotely similar enough to have you use its BIOS on yours and still end up with a working board.
