Been searching for NIC comparisons between these two cards.

So far, found this (http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr_index.html?/main/nictest.html).

Of course, the benchmarking machines are rather weak by todays standings and I expect that the CPU utilisation results have alot to do with the innefficient I/O handling of the OS (Windows 98). It also seems like this is an amateur review, not one conducted by a professional with access to the proper testing equipment.

I've checked and my system could pass the card data fast enough to make full use of the NIC.

I've also heard that Netgear + a Unix/Linux based OS (I'm running Mandrake 9.0) work rather well, any further information regarding this.

Does anybody know of any further resources I could take a peek at?

ATM I can get the
Dlink DFE-530TX for $52
NetGear FA312TX for $67 (needs to be shipped in)

If you checked the link in my post, it was to that article.

I have not been able to find any others.

Why so expensive? The D-Link runs about $12 here. It stinks too. I would get a Linksys LNE100TX or an SMC 1211TX.

Are you sure you're talking about the DFE-530TX, not an earlier model?

Also remember, those prices are in Australian dollars (not US Dollars)

The Netgear FA312TX actually costs about $58, but I have to order it in from interstate (cannot find local supplier) and shipping costs an extra $9.

Yeah - that's the one:

I have one sitting on my shelf. I actually wore out the RJ-45 port on one of them. Cheap stuff. The Linksys is much better. So is the Netgear.

Do you Americans always get hardware that cheap?

Pretty much. :D

Blame your politicians and greedy importers. It's a shorter trip from China to Australia than to here.

I'd blame some of it on our currency ($1 Australian is about .50c US, so the prices get doubled).

Most hardware thats all there is too it, But I'm surprised you can get stuff at prices like that.

From the reviewp posted above, these prices are in American dollars
D-Link DFE 530TX+ $30
Netgear FA312TX $25

Guess it depends where you buy from.
