I have a slaved 80 GB hard drive that contains 30GB of data. The drive is formatted FAT32 and is not partitioned. I would like to create a partition of 10MB on which to image the master drive. Can I partition the slave drive by going to my computer/manage without loosing any data or must I purchase a program to do this?

Dell 8200
Win XP Home
P4 1.5
512 Ram

Thanks

Use this:

Once you've shrunk the partition, use Disk Managment to create another.

Tried partition magic 7 with an XP/98 dual-boot just to see if pm got along with xp which it did, 4mos later I moved 10g into the xp partition and it worked fine, a feature rich utility for around $60.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I found that Windows Computer Management worked fine.

huh??

doesn't the tittle read "Partition Without Loosing Data?"

Partition Magic and other good ones will resize your partitions just fine without losing Data

but the Disk Management that comes with WinNT/2k/XP doesn't save your data, it just deletes them, when you resize the partitions.

unless M$ released some kind of updates for it, then the last remains true

You never miss the opportunity to trash Windows (while you use Win2K yourself). He didn't say that he used DISKMGMT for the whole job, did he?

BTW, you have to admit that DISKMGMT is the best native storage management tool around. Darn I love that thing!

Yes I do also use Disk Management a lot, is like a cut down version of Patition Magic :D

and i do also run WinXP, is just not my Main OS, as Win2k Win98se and Linux

WinXP Pro is among my other Ghost Images for reference use only, like OS/2, Netware, BeOS, NT4 W/S, DOS 6.22+Win3.11, etc :t
