Well, when I recieved my new Chaintech GeForce 4 GT20 64MB from Newegg, I was expecting a bit more then I got.

After some tinkering though I have everything to wear I want it to be WITHOUT overclocking the videocard. That comes next, along with overclocking the FSB as soon as I get ramsinks for everything and add a fan here or there.

Here's My stats. Of the one other System that was equal in comparison to mine on Madonion.com, I had almost 1000 more 3dmarks.

Processor: AMD T-Bird "Pink-Core" Athlon 1000 mhz @ 1141 mhz (max.: 1500 mhz)

Ram: 256MB V-Data PC2100 @ 134(DDR268)mhz CAS2.5

Video: Chaintech Excel GeForce 4 Ti4200 (hand Editted BIOS, 41.32(?) Detonator Drivers) "GT20" 64MB @ 512mhz [stock]

Mainboard: EpoX (Pronix) EP-8KHA KT266/8233 DDR1600/2100

3dmarks: 8019 @ 1024x768x32 DXTC NoAA Pure Hardware T&L

That's not bad, considering the Dated processor speed....

Not bad, shame about the CPU like :(

Why'd you get the 8KHA? The 8KHA+ has the much better KT266/A chipset. Didn't you read the benchmarks? The old KT266 was nothing but a boulder trying to float above the Marianas trench. I would have waited.

That, with the CPU speed, is a good score my friend.

Onto the K8T400M and crushK8... :D

The main thing holding you back is the CPU.

Upgrade to an XP 1900 or higher and you should get close to 10000 3DMARK points.

At the time I didn't have the time, or money to wait on the 8KHA+ and KT266a, since this motherboard was a contingency plan after my old Epox EP-MVP3C (good board that, continued to work flawlessly even after a few components fried on board, it was amazing).

And where's the fun in upgrading? For that matter, I don't have any cash, I'd rather find new and interesting ways to boost performance and overclock :)

mmm, gets a tad unstable around 9.0x, thinking may have boosted the cpu votage a little too much, as it rebooted in the middle of 3dmark. No worries, I'll figure it out.

For reference, this is the only 1.0 ghz version of this stepping for the thunderbirds, every other chip I've been able to find with the ASHHA (I believe) stepping were 1.2 ghz chips, I think AMD OEM'd an underclocked copy of it for some circuit in their corporated OEM market, which explains why (?) it runs so much cooler 'overclocked' then when underclocked, it was drawing more voltage then available and heating itself up.

Wierd, I expect to get at least 1.2 ghz stabley. I may expirement with dropping the FSB to 200 from 266 to see if I can get CAS2 Stabley, then just use a 12x multiplier, and see how it goes from there.

I have hardware, I like to see what works. :)

For the record, my 3dmarks score gained 300 points by bumping it up .5 of a multiplier, theres something odd about that. Hopefully I'll get it up to around 9500 3dmarks with standard air cooling.

Wish me luck :)

that's a very good score for a Stocked not OCed score :t

The System itself is OC'd, or rather, bumped up some. The ASHHA stepping was used primarily to make 1.2 ghz Processors, which is probably why this thing overclocks to 1.1 without bumping the voltage up (I actually bumped the voltage down twice to bring down the temp..still stable...hmm).

FSB is 268 (not much) but I bumped the CPU Multiplier up one notch, and it stays pretty stable like this, can't seem to get 1.2 stabley yet though, which is a shame, considering this is just a downgraded version of a 1.2.

Though, I will admit, this wierd athlon has been giving me all sorts of unusual results...

The card isn't OC'd yet, and surprisingly, I found minor OC'ing didn't do didly squat, so I'm going to wait until I can get a better fan and some ramsinks then try a bigger step

The goal is to see how close to stock I can stay and still get 10000 or more 3dmarks.

Well right now i'm at 151bus. I'm scard to go higher cause it corrups somewhere between 151-160bus 37-40 pci speed

The hard drive is a 45gb WD 5400rpm.

Hmm strange at 166FSB tojo's HDD corrupts... even though the PCI bus is not being ocd one bit..

maybe the CPU is doing something to it

you guys... turn DMA for the HDDs off in your Bios... and enable PIO mode 4 .. i had to do that to get my 155 FSB to boot on a KT133a chipset, before that i was topped out at 152...
I thank NOHTO for that piece of advice on the HDD settings... and it worked!!!

I know, Grentarc -- but the thing is, the PCI/IDE/AGP isn't being Ocd one bit @ 166 FSB b/c the KT333 chipset and the mobo has dividers for it. :t

And the KT400 board has no problems in UDMA133, even with the FSB @ 400, with no dividers for that speed.

yeah.. i thought of that... but it is worth a try...
with that trick i juts got my KT133a up to 165MHz FSB.... :D
good luck with Tojo's box:t
