Ive got An AZZA PT-51VH mobo with a P200 on it,very basic pci video card, and a new WD 30 gb hd. Just put WIN98 SE on it.
It has 4-72 pin simm slots and 2 -168 pin dimm slots. I wanted to boost the ram a bit . I had 32 mb in simm slots, so I slipped 64 mb stick of pc100 in the DIMM slot but it would only recognize it as 16 mb...pulled all the simms out, still same thing. Why is this thing seeing 64 mb pc100 sdram as 16 mb? Even tried the other dimm slot too same same....any ideas guys?

I think it is most likely a limitation based on the age and chipset of your motherboard. (the PT-51VH uses the Intel VX chipset)

Here's a similar thread
New RAM seen as 16mb, when it is 64mb ? (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum2/HTML/012756.html)

Somewhat edited version of my post in the other forum:

If the 64MB DIMM has one side with 8 chips on it, it's a high-density DIMM (TX/TXpro boards were the first to support these). This happens with 4-chip 32MB DIMMs as well (POST at 8 MB).

If you have a 430VX board like I'm about 99% sure you do (one DIMM slot + 4 SIMMs were only found on them, check the northbridge to be sure), you are not going to be able to use a DIMM larger than a low-density 32MB in it.

This is not something that can be fixed via software. It will require either finding a double-decked (as tall as two DIMMs) DIMM with 32 2MB chips on it or a motherboard upgrade.

One word of caution: This board will actually go slower due to caching issues if you go above 64MB. It's due to the chipset.
