Hey guys,
I just bought myself a new Lexmark Z42!
Very nice printer! And very good quality prints! Whow!
The only thing bothering me is the Lexmark Print Software.
I installed like it said in the handbook, fine.
And everything is woking fine.
But I really don't like that it seems to be running in the background ALL THE TIME, HOGGING MY PRECIOUS SYSTEM RESOUCRES!
I wouldn't even mind that on my "server"PC but I shared the printer and WHAMM now my Laptop installed the Lexmark software too!
Do I really need the software? Is it really worth the system resources? Is there maybe a way to deaktivate it and only start it when I'm printing?

Variable go to msconfig and loose everything
to do with your printer(I think there are
3 or 4 items)you don't need any of it.
I cant remember what they are called but I
think one is called lexstart, just remove
anything you dont recignize.
Your printer will still operate perfectly.

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner, Variable.
If I recall correctly, it's called "LexStart". Just uncheck it from msconfig. Also check the "Startup" folder on the Start Menu, I can't remember if the Lexmark software dropped anything in there or not. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
<Edit> There are two entries in msconfig: "Lexstart" and "LexmarkPrinTray"...uncheck them both, it won't affect the printer operation at all.

Funny it should work. Try rechecking everything you unchecked in msconfig
eccept pritray(Ithink that is your biggest hog).If this doesn't help put a check in printray, maybe newer Lexmarks need all this trash but I still don't think so.I would
uninstall/reinstall and try again it should
work.
Best of luck

Yeah, I don't quite understand that myself. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
I installed my mothers Z-42 on Christmas day on her old Win95 machine with a parallel cable, and then again, this time using USB, when I got through building her new P3-866 with Win98SE. Both times, I disabled and/or deleted everything that loaded at startup.
Post the exact error message, I'll see what I can find.

Okay I don't really care if it is running on my "server" computer...
but now I changed from WinME to Win2K on my Laptop and now I can't use the printer as a networked printer anymore.
I get an errormessage that the needed/correct software isn't installed on my server.
Then it asks me if I want to install it on the client pc. But win2k doesn't have the correct drivers and when I try to setup the newly downloaded drivers from the Lexmark page (setup.exe) nothing happens.
I click and click and click but the program doesn't start!
