I had a Quantum 20GB go out on me, after I took a look at it the controller shorted out and burned up. I figure the disc is still good and the drive would probably work if i could get a new controller card. If anyone has everdone this let me know if my logic is correct and if so where can I maybe pick up one of those things from. I assume it needs to be the exact same model?

In the 1st place, how did you Burn the controller?

and what kind of controller are you talking about?

the On board mobo IDE controller?

or a PCI controller?

or are you talking about the HDD bottom electronic board?

Yes that is it, i didn't know what to call it but that is what burned up. As far as how it happend I haven't the slightest idea it just did with regular usage. You have any ideas?

I have never seen those cards for sale by themselves. you would need the same exact model of drive and take the board off of it. Finding another Quantum 20 might be difficult now.

Unless there is really critical data, like a doctoral thesis or something, I don't think it's worth the trouble for just 20GB.

The drive has nothing important on it, unless you consider a virus important. I just thought I would save some bucks if that electronic piece is possible to come by. If they were possible to purchase I thought maybe Maxtor might distibute them  :t
