My cdrom drive was unable to read cd's that i new were in perfect condition so i was after some sort of quick fix. After searching the internet I came across the manufacturers site (Mitsibishi) and and i found i "firmware update" which I thought would somehow make my cdrom drive run smoother.

Surprise, surprise, it screwed my cd drive up even more and now im trying to load in my original firmware version back in but i cant find it anywhere. It is a 50x Diamond Data(A mitsibishi brand name). Is there any similar firmware version on the windows 98 CD or on the net that will work with my drive. Its really important that i get it going and any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

wish I could help you, I really do. ONly thing I can suggest is you go to windrivers.com or wimsbios.com, these places have links to other places that have drivers. You might get lucky at one of them and one is all you need!

Welcome to Sysopt! :t

You can go here to get firmware downloads for your Mitsubishi Diamond Data drive:

Mitsibishi's site does not have any firmware versions for my model but i have tried them all anyway and they do not work.(many different cdrom drive models are made for each speed)

Is it possible to use my cdrom drive without firmware loaded?? Is there another way to find a working firmware version.

I dont really want to throw away a perfectly good drive just because i cant find a firmware version that works.

What about Omega31's suggestion? Did you try that site for your original firmware? Or maybe the cd or floppy that came with
your cd rom if there was anything that came with it.
Where did you get the update from, maybe you can get another version or the original version there as well?

If you tell us the exact model number of your cd-rom drive, someone may be able to find it.

Otherwise, depending on where you live, you can get a replacement cd-rom drive for quite cheap. Better yet, change it to cd-rw drive. LiteOn cd-rw drives are quite inexpensive almost anywhere.

Yep, your drive is a paperweight.

Your only hope is to find the correct firmware from the internet.

Try this site:
