yesterday my wife went to turn on my PC (why did I bother building one for her own?)
Aaaanyways.. She said the monitor wouldnt turn on after booting the PC.
When I looked at it, I heard it "trying" to turn on.
It sounded like a pilot light for a stove.
Tick,tick,tick,tick,tick....
When I turned it off and back on again, it was fine.
Any ideas?
BTW its a 19" ViewSonic A90

Did her computer goto standby?
Or automatically shut down Monitor in the screen saver settings?
Sometimes the PC will go into powersave and take everything with it.
I have serval on my network that do this. The only way to get they back is turn off the monitor and reset the tower.
I disable all powersave modes and the problem ends.
Check to see how your powersave is set in the mobo bios.
Good Luck.

Believe me, The first thing I do after reinstalling Windows is shut off all power management. I'll check the BIOS again, although Im pretty sure I set it to not turn off anything.
The PC was completely powered down when this happened. She turned it on, Windows and everything booted up up fine, but nothing on the screen. And upon listening closely I could hear the monitor "trying to turn on".
image the sound a gas stove makes when you first turn it on. The fast, repetitive "tick,tick,tick,tick......
im guessing the Monitor is screwed up, But after I shut the monitor off and turned it on, it was fine.

sounds like some high voltage jumping from the second anode (the big spark plug wire lookin thing). somtimes they can be disconneted ant the crt cleaned, but don't mess with it if you don't know what your doing or how to bleed off the 20,000 or so volts
