I just bought a Modem blaster 56k external today and hooked it up and it seems to be be qutie a bit faster than with my internal modemblaster. The old one was an ISA model and was starting to go flaky on me so I decided to replace it. Even though my connection icon says I am at a slower bps, pages seem to load noticably faster. Is this a result of the external modem doing all the work instead of relying on the CPU to do some stuff? Whatever the reason, I like it. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I am going to download some large files and see how the thru-put looks when I do that.
Thanks for any input.. Mp

The new one is V.90 or V.92. The old one probably is not either. The newer protocols "assume" the phone company has upgraded to digital at the Central Office (most have). This allows for faster transactions than if time were allowed for another A/D or D/A conversion. Compressed data often gets through with actual rates well in excess of 56K.
