Hello, I'm trying to see if one of my old hdd is really dead. Its an old Maxtor 7120a. The first sign of trouble was the error msg: insert boot disk. The jumpers and bios settings were correct- user cyl set ect.
Next I tried to use a boot disk to sys c: it said: disk unusable.
I tried to use Maxtors maxblast for low level format and Maxtor tech help said to use an older version- maxdiag or llfutil or something. That program hung at the screen- was supposed to take 3-4 min, nothing happened. I then tried fdisk/mbr, now the error msg was: cant read from sector 0, Now the error msg is: disk is write protected.
How can a hard drive be write protected??
Thanks in advance
