I don't recommend WinXP for that rig. Win2K would be OK, but more memory would make a world of difference.

Realistically, I'd recommend these minimums for XP:

750MHz CPU
256MB RAM

I ran XP on a 400 Celeron w/256MB RAM with minimal added programs and it was sloooow. Add some spyware and you have real agony. :(

The min Specs are
233 MHz
64 meg of RAM
1.5 GB of free space

What they recommend
300 MHz
128 Meg RAM
4gb Hard Drive

Which means that you make the cut, but I would not recommend putting it on there it would be too slow. You would have to tone down all the eye candy that makes it look cool to get it to run fine, but give it a try worst case is you just install an older OS that needs less overhead.

Bi Polar Bill (http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/3247/bi-polar.html) is DA MAN! Sometimes I get emails with my question answered fully and correctly before I even hit the 'Submit' button!

I have..

1.15GHz Duron, 40GB HDD, 384MB DDR and GF2Ti

.. running XP Pro, and gaming isn't all that great.

I would advise anyone to have at least an AthlonXP 1600+ before going XP. :(

My 300Mhz pentium II ran great with windows XP games were fast and no slow downs.

It also had 256mb of pc100 and two 8 gig drives.

Also I think an AMD XP 1600+ is kinda hi. My other computer which is a 1.2ghz t'bird runs win xp without any problems, faster than 98:t

well ive put 98se back on. cheers guys

also i have been looking up some other topics accross the net on xp and it seems that a good spec for it would be say 500MHZ + 128 Ram for XP. obviously you can run it on a slower machine but apart from JAWA no-one with specs over this have probs with cp running slowly.

p.s. its not that great anyway:r :r :r

Well, When I have 256MB RAM and minimal apps running, 120MB of mem is in use. You'll be paging like a big dog on 128MB.

Specs--256MB RAM, 1.3GHz Athlon, 40GB HDD, 7200 rpm, Win xp home
Performance-Could be better, depends on what you run with it (games, apps, ..)

just a thought how do you lot judge the speed of an OS. Do you have a software prog for it or just by observation. to me xp seems the same as 98 ME 2000 etc for speed. apps load when i click them. internet loads exactly the same games run exactly the same. only in win2000 did games drop in framerate.

i dont think microsoft will have designed xp to have to have say a 1.5ghz processor in order to run smoothly then it would lose 80% of its market. remember we demand much more out of our pc than the average user does
