I just installed a new board soltek SL-75kav. AMD 1500 xp processor and 3 memory modules pc133 2x512 and 1x128.
Also running Win XP professional. After the inital boot up THe machine takes 30-45 secounds before the windows icon appears.
It never use to do that. It seems to be running ok other than that.
I did think it would be a little faster than it is. When the machine does this it seems like it is dead. Black screen on the monitor Hard drive led is not blinking. Any ideas. I am not very technical

If you swapped boards without reinstalling WinXP, there may be driver conflicts that are slowing you down. There are many components in motherboards that Windows must load drivers for. Windows is very likely trying to load your old motherboard's drivers too.
Try this:
Boot into Safe Mode (press F8 immediately after POST and select it from the menu). Open Device Manager (DEVMGMT.MSC). Click View > Show hidden devices. Some of those hidden devices are deliberately hidden by Windwows, but many are old "phantom" drivers from your previous setup. Since it's hard to know which is which, it's best to reinstall Windows from scratch.
BTW - you would have to do the same with any OS.

hi, I am no guru, but my machine takes about 30-40 seconds to load up. I get the gray screen but eventualy i get the xp pro screen and it loads 10-20 seconds later. maybe thats normal.
on the other hand I have basicaly half of what you have proseser wise, and 1/4 of the ram. maybe it should be faster?
my hp machine takes even longer, as long as it loads properly and works as it should I dont realy worrie too much about the loading proccess.
regards, ward.

I think I had 2 problems. I think I have bad memory modules or not compatable. I reinstalled my old memory 2X 128 PC133. I also
reinstalled XP and it seems to be working much better. Thanks for the help.
