Honestly there was! :edit Hemond 10-18-2002, 02:33 PM This is a great deal of course, free delivered to your door. Its not surprising though. Norton is always giving their product away. I have never actually bought a copy of the AV or System Works other than the 1st copy back in 1998. They usually rebate their AV in August in advance of the new release. You'll get it for free then. Same thing with SW. For that matter McCaffee fully rebates their AV too if you are an upgrader. I always take advantage of these freebies even though I don't need extra copies. There's always a friend or relative who appreciates it. You can also install on multiple machines with no problems - fully functional including live updates. elroy 10-20-2002, 01:00 PM I caught the SystemWorks deal before it closed. It was working about noon on the 18th but was shut down an hour or so later. I emailed the link to my brother and when he tried it, no luck. It has been off ever since. mboyaj 12-27-2002, 01:03 PM Did anyone get their copy of Norton System Works 2003 yet? I still haven't received mine. Hemond 12-28-2002, 12:52 AM Over on the shopping sites some people have stated that they are getting a message from Symantec. Sym. is refusing to honor the free offer. You will get something in the mail and in email giving you the brush off. My buddy got one in his email. Here is the cut and paste Dear Sir/Madam, You recently requested a Not for Resale version of Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional Edition in response to a message that was either sent to you via e-mail or posted on the Internet. The message that you responded to was sent by Symantec to a limited number of resellers, and was redirected to you without Symantec's permission. Therefore, we will be unable to fulfill your request for a copy of Norton SystemWorks. We appreciate your interest in Symantec's products and invite you to download a trial version of Norton AntiVirusT 2003, Norton AntiVirusT Professional Edition 2003 or NortonT Personal Firewall 2003. This trial version will provide you 15 days of free protection. Please go to www.symantec.com to download the software. Again, thank you for your interest in Symantec's products. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Please feel free to contact customer service at 1-800-441-7234 with any questions. Best Regards, Symantec elroy 12-28-2002, 01:39 AM I signed up for this free Norton software 2 months ago. So far I've gotten NOTHING!!! What a deal. What a wonderful public relations idea, promise customers something for free and then don't give it to them. Hemond 12-28-2002, 10:36 AM Unfortunately, more and more of this sort of thing is going to happen. As sellers/retailors offer online promos the word goes out and thousands of people respond. Symantec is apparently a novice at online promos otherwise they wouldn't have been caught with their pants down. Instead of swallowing this mistake and honoring it, they simply cancel the promo. Leaves a fowl taste in everyones mouth. I am doing my part to slam them. Sent a snotty email to CS and am posting negative comments on review sites. They will learn the power of the online community. This was a very popular promo and plenty of folks are pi$$ed at being kissed off. You can be sure someone's head is rolling at corporate headquarters. millwork 01-06-2003, 07:01 PM From one of my previous posts: Here's how to get Norton Ghost for free (or nearly free) and System Works Professional along with it. I have done this and it's OK with Staples. I know many others who also had little or no difficulty. Staples will price match on-line sellers. You get Spam frequently that offers Norton SW Pro for less than $30.00. DO NOT buy from spam retailers (no doc's). Print the Advertisement, take it to staples and they will match (not beat) the price. Norton SW Pro has a rebate of $30.00 for upgrade from any virus protection software. Viola! Free, after rebate and Norton Ghost is part of the package. Staples policy is: If the on-line seller charges for Next Day Shipping, Staples will also charge you that rate because Staples ships next day for everything. (You will be charged even if the product is in the store) The Staples store manager is supposed to go on-line and check the seller's shipping method before doing the price match - most times they don't. Beware: Some on-line sellers will charge as much as $45.00 for next day shipping - just check the site first. Policy is good for any product in Staples' inventory. Because of this policy, I make Staples the place to shop for a lot of things whether or not I have time to compare prices. Go for it! :t iowaboy 01-06-2003, 10:54 PM I also signed up 2 months agao and so far they have not honored the offer. I also have sent many messages requesting info on when it would be arriving. Since they have seen fit to not honor or reply the state attorney general now is looking into it. SysOpt.com
