be careful if you've never popped a laptop before, plenty of stories of broken hooks, etc. - how old is this laptop anyways?

most important, make sure it's not plugged in, and it's a good idea to remove the battery, and be careful about static, etc.

last time I opened some older compaqs P90 and 120s, it was pretty straightforward, but they use torx screws (you can buy a set of torx screwdrivers cheap at any hardware store) and/or these funky screws where you can use a small flat blade screwdriver, and then you need to be careful breaking them loose - I'm assuming they use the same mo on their newer machines

you don't need to normally undo them all either to get the case open, just find your way slowly and see which ones, when loosened, get your case starting to open - keyboard ought to be one of the first items to pop out
