W2K box hangs on splash screen

I have a W2K box that hangs on the splash screen. Norton's System Works was loaded, it then did an Antivirus update from the Internet and got hung. After a reboot, it can't get in on (F8) Safe Mode or Last Know Good Boot or any other choices. Just displays the W2K splash screen and hangs. Tried to boot from the Norton's CD, no luck.

Note: I do have the original cd's that came with the box, one containing the OS.

ugh. did you try booting from the win2k cd and running a repair?

Thanks for the reply. I can do that can I? So boot with the OS cd and it will reinstall W2K without touching any data? The user is scared to death to lose anything and heaven forbid he do a backup. )-|

you're not reinstalling, you're repairing the existing os. the data should be intact.
