ok, stupid question, but I would like 100% confirmation.
You cant mix say, 256 pc2100 with 256 pc2700 can you?

also, this number I see next to RAM on websites, pc2100 is usually "2.5" sometimes, "2.0" what the hell is that?
thanks,
Matt.

You can mix them, but you would end up slowing the 2700 down to the 2100 level.

The 2 or 2.5 is the CAS latency. the lower the better.

right, thanks for link man, but u gota understand, im **** at maths, and all that confused me. So can u mix latency 2.5 with 2.0?
also, I want to upgrade to 512 pc2100, but my mobo is pc2700 compatible. now ive noticed that the price difference is barely noticeable between pc2700 and pc2100, so would I be better buyin 256pc2700 to go with the pc2100, and run them both at pc2100 for now? Then in future I only gota buy 256more pc2700. Saving me money. opinions?

yes, you can mix memory of different latencies, but you again will probably have to slow the system to the highest latency, 2.5.

well, that's really up to you. I would just get pc2700 cas2 if i could. pc2700 can run at 166mhz (x2 ddr). pc2100 runs at 133mhz (x2 ddr). you can try to overclock your pc2100 to 166, but I can't guarantee it will be stable.

Think you can go 2 ways with the cl, either get the one that does the 2.0 to keep them matched or go with the 2700 and sell or trade the odd size or if this is a recent purchase return the odd stick so it doesn't cost you.

well, Its coming with 256 pc2100, ordered, cant change it, and I got a feelin latency will be 2.0. everywhere I look its 2.5..... where the **** can I find 2.0?
Also, I might just buy another 256 pc2700 then and let it run at pc2100 speed for now. might aswell for the price.
